Fall Social Media and Communication Intern

Position Title: Fall Social Media and Communication Intern            
Office: Care Net, Lansdowne, VA
Department:  Communication and Marketing

Reports To: Marketing and Communication Manager                     
Direct Reports: none
Expected start date: late August/early September 

Position Focus
Care Net is hiring a fall intern to assist with its social media and communication efforts.

As part of the Marketing and Communication Team, the intern will work closely with Care Net’s Marketing and Communication Manager to create, coordinate, and promote multimedia content through Care Net’s multi-channel communication stream.  The intern will create and curate blog posts, videos, images, and other content, and push them out via Care Net’s website, blog, Facebook page, Twitter feed, and other online vehicles.

 Working in Care Net’s Hubspot-built website platform, the intern will learn and implement basic inbound marketing techniques to help the organization drive traffic, engage contacts, build Care Net’s audience, and deepen the organization’s engagement with its audience.

 The position will require approximately 20 hours of work per week, which can be flexibly spread over the course of the work wee.

 A stipend will be paid.

 Qualifications

  • Committed Christian who demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Agrees with and can uphold Care Net’s Statement of Faith, Vision/Mission, and Core Values.
  • Possesses a strong commitment and dedication to the pro-life position and related sexual purity issues.
  • Polished oral and written communications skills and strong interpersonal communications skills.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, creatively demanding work environment that requires meticulous attention to detail
  • A "digital native,” familiar with the Web's top social media sites, news sites, and blogs
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Senior Graphic Designer

Reports To: Chief Outreach Officer                                    
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Exempt                            
Direct Reports: Junior Graphic Designer

Position Focus:

Reporting to the Chief Outreach Officer (who oversees the Development and Marketing/Communication Departments), the Senior Graphic Designer develops and supervises production of printed, electronic, and multimedia materials for advertising, publications, conference, Internet applications and websites, and other graphic needs for Care Net. The Senior Graphic Designer also manages the Junior Graphic Designer.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Designs brochures, newsletters, flyers, posters, reports, web videos, manuals, packaging, multimedia presentations, fundraising, and other publications and materials as needed
  • Works with internal and external clients to determine materials needs and gains approval for designs
  • Layouts of print and e-publications templates
  • Develops corporate web site layout and visual elements
  • Works with vendors, prepares materials, and designs for specific publication format
  • Supervises production of materials, choosing ink and paper, and ensuring quality
  • Coordinates with Center Services and Client Care Department on printer and other graphic design vendors
  • Works on conference-related designs and artwork
  • Coordinates the producer role at conference
  • Manages design and production of materials within budget constraints
  • Works to update and approve changes made to the corporate website
  • Create online artwork to correlate with printed fundraising appeals supplied by vendor
  • Works with Marketing and Communication Department to coordinate and shoot short video clips
  • Generates Affiliate and Donor-related video emails via bulk email client
  • Assists in updating and managing bulk email lists
  • Manages the Junior Graphic Designer, including daily supervision, delegating of responsibilities, and conducting annual performance reviews

Minimum qualifications 

  • Committed Christian who demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Agrees with and can uphold Care Net’s Statement of Faith, Vision/Mission and Core Values.
  • Possesses a strong commitment and dedication to the pro-life position and related sexual purity issues.
  • At least five years experience performing commercial design work
  • Has familiarity and comfort in working with computer databases and website content management systems in addition to a high level of proficiency with Apple computers
  • Has strong oral, written skills, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Has people management experience
  • Has strong organizational skills, project management skills, and attention to detail
  • Has the ability to work with a diversity of cultures and Christian denominations, backgrounds, and traditions
  • Holds a varied and attractive portfolio of corporate oriented materials
  • Has a mastery of basic composition, page layout, art, and presentation
  • Possesses a strong and creative design sense along with attention to detail
  • Has a working knowledge of the following programs: Adobe: In Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat; Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (Entourage)
  • Has experience with the printing processes, terminology, and requirements
  • Experience in web page designIs self-managed, quality driven, and able to multitask
  • Has the ability to meet deadlines and budgets\
  • Is able to work well with clients and teams
  • Has the ability to travel, including travel to the annual conference

Preferred qualifications

  • Holds a Bachelor’s Degree and/or advanced degree and/or certification in graphic design
  • Has familiarity with inbound and content marketing practices and software, preferably Hubspot or a similar automated marketing platform
