Lent Week Two: Praying for Open Eyes and Soft Hearts

I love the Lord, for He heard my voice;
    He heard my cry for mercy.
Because He turned his ear to me,
    I will call on Him as long as I live.
Ps. 116:1-2 NIV

This reading is so relevant it is to our work here at Care Net and in pro-life ministry.

God doesn't need our help to hear the cries of the voiceless, the over one million precious unborn lives lost in abortions annually, in their distress. He can hear with perfect clarity their cries for mercy.

But as servants of Christ, we are called to champion their cause before men. To reach women and men, blinded by lies and discouraging words of hopelessness, who consider abortion when they find themselves facing an unexpected—or unexpectedly complicated—pregnancy. To give those parents hope for their future, and for their children's future. To defend the innocent.

But saving the lives of unborn children is not enough!

As Christians engaged in this ministry, we have the opportunity to lead parents straight to the foot of the wondrous cross, where Christ can redeem and save. We have the privilege of being tools for God's miraculous transformation, and to offer children saved from abortion the opportunity to learn the most wonderful thing of all: how much God loves them and the purpose for which they were created.

Please join Care Net this week as we pray for:

  • The eyes of our culture to be opened to see the value and sanctity of every human life, regardless of circumstance.

  • Our ears to hear God in our every day lives, instructing us how to be ambassadors for Christ and the abundant life that He alone can provide.

  • Courage to continue to stand up for Christ, and for the unborn children who cry for mercy—even when it seems unpopular, politically incorrect, or too personal.
